Metal Leaf Introduction

As in most endeavors all written instructions cannot replace experience. This applies to metal leafing in the extreme. The information provided is just an overview of the materials and processes used in metal leafing. The Bibliography at the end of these instructions lists sources of in-depth information concerning specific procedures used for specialized leafing projects.

We urge you to practice the procedures before tackling any major project (ie. the wall in your living room or the table in the dining room). Also, it is important to realize that the finished look of a metal leaf job will not be flat and glass like except under certain conditions (which require extensive training and precise handling). The handmade look of glass leafing is also one of its most appealing features.

Remember: PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE
