Grumbacher's Max Mediums are a range of non-toxic mediums formulated especially for water-thinnable Max Oil paints. Although Max Grumbacher® and Max2™ paints can be used with conventional oil painting mediums, many artists are still bothered by the toxicity of some painting mediums. In addition, in order to retain complete water miscibility, it is necessary to maintain a proportion of 2 parts Max to 1 part conventional mediums.
The range of Max Mediums answers this need with three completely nontoxic formulas that can be freely used with Max paints, without concern about proportions. They can also be used with conventional oil paints, although they will not make conventional oils water-thinnable. Of course, like Max and Max2 paints, they clean up with soap and water.
