Daniel Greene Oil Colors
Daniel Greene is one of the most respected
painters and teachers in America for good reason. Greene has work in more than
500
public and private collections. A winner of the Portrait Society of America's
Medal of Honor, he is also in the Oil Painters of America Hall of Fame as well
as the Pastel Society Hall of Fame.
Now, in cooperation with Jack Richeson and Company, Greene has created
a line of 42 oil paints that are stunning in their hue, permanence, pigment and purity.
"These hand crafted paints are intense, highly pigmented, contain no
fillers, and have a very strong tinting strength. These colors are much stronger
and remain consistent from batch to batch. Drying time is more uniform."
The color line calls for the use of Flake white, a choice Greene cites
as significant. “When you need faster drying time, it is accelerated
by using Flake white. It is the least brittle, least yellowing of the whites,
and has stood the test of time over centuries.
"I have selected these 42 colors for a start. They virtually
meet all the painting needs you might have. As I review other colors I will
add
them to the line once I am thoroughly satisfied that they meet the standards
I require."
How do you make a new oil color line… and
why?
Time, technology, and a never-ending need to improve on the status quo
drives us to seek change and growth. We have known for centuries that
great works of art can rot, fade, and decay because many early materials
used in paintings could not hold up to the damage of time.
In the last fifty years, the top manufacturers have been developing
new and better media to insure longer life. Jack Richeson chose oil painter
Daniel Greene, known as both a master painter and an acclaimed teacher,
to ask what more can be done. Once you have created the finest oil paint
chemically, how do we stretch that extra mile and ensure that it also
fits the demands of the most demanding of painters?
Daniel responded with enthusiasm. The secret was no secret at all. It
came down to three words: color, color, and color! It’s the pigments,
Greene insisted.
It took two years of intense investigating, but Jack Richeson & Co.
has developed a palette of colors to please the master. The Daniel Greene
line of oil paint is truly the finest artist oil paint made anywhere
in the world today.
"For years I have been grinding my own paint in order to obtain
certain qualities that have not been available in most brands of mass
produced oil paints. I mentioned my efforts to Jack Richeson and he volunteered
to create a highly superior line of paint according to my specifications
and in conjunction with his chemists – paint makers.
"I am truly thrilled with the results and feel that I have for
the first time a complete array of handmade oil paints of the highest
possible quality. Further, Jack has offered to share these unique materials
with artists everywhere. Consequentially I am very happy to recommend
and put my name on these excellent colors." - Daniel E. Greene
